Windows Live WebMail Refresh November 5, 2008

As you may know,  the next wave of Windows Live was being pushed forward slowly, gradually being released to different countries. Well, it has now become official in the UK!

At first, it seemed quite odd, but Microsoft has promised upto 70% faster load times and I can agree on the most part. They’ve thrown out the clunky old mess and have introduced a nice, cleaner feel to the whole webmail experience. They’ve also thrown in a few customisable themes which are quite nice, although some people may wish to have solid colour options too.

I think that this whole change is heading for a big controversy like the new Facebook look – some people like it, some hate it. But Microsoft have claimed that they have made adjustments according to the feedback from us, the users.

Overall I give it a thumbs up. Nice work Microsoft, now lets see how you can revamp you blogging tool, windows live messenger etc.

Let me know what YOU think by leaving a comment!

Hotmail/Windows Live Mail not working in UK February 26, 2008

Surprisingly, today the 26th of Feb, Hotmail ceased to work. I only discovered this as someone was frantically trying to get a document sent to themselves via email.

I searched online and found out that M$ is apparently upgrading it to Windows Live Mail 8.1 and therefore a lot of the services are down.

Windows Live Messenger seems to be working though so at least all is not at an end hehe

But on a serious note I feel that M$ should have warned us or at least sent out a message entailing why they have had to shut hotmail down etc…

 – UPDATE –

I guess that my original source of Information was wrong. The problem was caused to Windows LiveID failing meaning that the login process could not succeed.

ZDNet reported that people already logged into the system prior to the failure had difficulties logging out.

Also, the reason why it could not have been an update was due to M$ ‘rolling out’ upgrades meaning that they go through enthusiasts, avid beta users etc.. then finally on to the general public.

M$ seem to be working hard to get this under control, but seems a little slow to me :S
