Well its a little late, but Merry Christmas to all!!
Recently on Channel 4 over here in the UK there was a 10 minute broadcast from the President of Iran, President Ahmadinejad. The title of the broadcast was “An Alternative Christmas Greeting”, and I must say that I agree somewhat with that title.
Ahmadinejad was spectacularly polite however may have caused some unsettlement within the minds of western viewers. A quote from a spokesperson at the Foreign Office summarises how they may take it:
The British media are rightly free to make their own editorial choices, but this invitation will cause offence and bemusement not just at home but amongst friendly countries abroad.
One of the main reasons why they said this is because of some phrases that Ahmedinejad used which I personally do not feel were a provocative attack on the western countries, but rather just words of thought and opinion. He merely voiced out his view that the way in which countries are run in today’s day and age is not right and needs to be changed, especially with the economic state being what it is.
The president also said that a big factor in the whole international shambles of the conomy and the wars etc. that are going on are due to going astray from God. Now as I come from a religious background I feel that this does have an impact, however I feel it not so right for him to voice his opinion on that matter as much as he did. He referenced ‘Jesus Christ the son of Mary’ very frequently in order to make his points as he spoke about how Jesus would do things if he were here on Earth.
This video to my surprise has been taken quite well by the general public in the UK as i was listening to one of the most popular radio shows – LBC 97.3 – and the callers seemed to respond well to it.
If you want to take a look at the video itself, I believe that it should be somewhere on YouTube or on the Channel 4 website.
