Hey guys,

Recently, the well established and well known company, IObit, has released a new app that goes along nicely with their already excellent set of FREE software. Their acclaimed Advanced System Care Free is an excellent choice in PC maintenance as well as their Defrag software and lets see if their latest App can live up to the rest.

IObit Security 360 BETA was released out on 9th June to the general public. This is supposedly IObit’s effort to allow PC users to eliminate malware in general from their PC’s.

Here’s what IObit has to say:

Traditional Advantages of IObit. We love simple and automatic style.

Thanks to the unique “Dual-Core” anti-malware engine, complicated analysis can be made faster now.

Finds the Deepest Infections

We use DOG (Digital Original Gene), a novel heuristic malware detection method, to find the most complex threats.

Automatic and Frequent Updates

IObit Security 360 Team is ready now.

Work with All Antivirus Products

Everyone needs a qualified antivirus software, And IObit Security 360 will surely be the best mate for your current Antivirus.

Free for Home/Non-commercial Use

Scan & Remove is free, and real-time protection is free too. You will love this small but powerful free anti-malware.

Due to it being fairly new in the market, so to speak, there hasn’t been any extensive testing of the software to see just how effective it is. However, trusting IObit is something I have done for a long time now and I doubt they’ll disappoint this time.

Just remember that this is still BETA software so there may be some bugs and some features that are not yet fully functional.

So, if you are willing to add another anti-spyware to your PC security I find no harm in installing this app!

Microsoft Office 2010 Technical Preview Leaked May 16, 2009

Hey guys!

Thus far, our thirst for new stuff to rip to bits has been kept quenched by Windows 7, and now that there won’t be anything really new with Windows 7 builds except for under the hood bug fixes and performance improvements here and there.

It seems that there will be another widely used Microsoft product to keep us occupied: Microsoft Office 2010, also known as Microsoft Office 14.

Build 14.0.4006.1010, which is a technical preview, has seeped its way onto the internet, and it may be found at the torrent links at the bottom of this article. Office 2010 is confirmed to ship in both x64 and x86 flavors, and both have leaked. Keep your eyes out on GeekSmack for a screenshot gallery and an overview of all the new and exciting things in Office 2010, and I’d like to thank community member Panda X for the tip!

Windows Vista & Office 2007 SP2 April 29, 2009

Hey guys,

It seems that with the huge development on Windows 7, Microsoft hasn’t forgotten the much criticized predecessor Windows Vista.

With that said we come to the topic of the title, the second service pack for both Windows Vista and Office 2007.

It seems as though Microsoft has many hotfixes for us this time and the service pack for SP2 is pretty large indicating many changes. I have installed it personally on my Windows 7 machine and I guess there is a somewhat increase in performance. I have yet to try SP2 for Vista so I have no viewpoint on that.

Either way I strongly suggest that if you have either or both of these software packages, you should definitely upgrade by installing the second service packs.

Vista SP2 has been released to MSDN and Technet Subscribers and should be out very soon for public use.

The office SP2 update has already been released and is available via Windows update or the following link:

Avira AntiVir Version 9.0 March 19, 2009

Hey guys,

Many people I know have become staunch users of the free personal antivirus solution – Avira AntiVir Personal.

It is, in my opinion, much better than the ever popular avast and AVG. It uses far less system resources and has a much higher detection rate.

Their new version – 9.0 – was released a couple of days ago and is a very much improved version. I would strongly recommend it.

Hey all,

Well, it seems as though Adrian Kingsley-hughes of ZDNet.com has done it again. He has benchmarked the above named Windows OS’s and Build against each other in a thorough way.

Lets see who the winner is shall we:

Tests run on a very capable machine — LINK

Tests run on a moderately capable machine — LINK

It seems as though the latest build of Windows 7 is the best on the more capable machine running as a 64-bit operating system.

However, on the moderately capable machine it seems as though Windows Vista SP1 is best suited there.

Windows 7 Beta 1 Officially Available! January 9, 2009

We revealed that Microsoft would be posting a public beta of Windows 7 earlier this week and Microsoft has just made it available on it’s TechNet channels.

Entitled Windows 7 beta customer preview program, the company has posted the beta bits to the Microsoft TechNet pages. Be warned it’s rather slow at the moment.

According to Microsoft there are 2.5 million keys to go around worldwide so plenty in other words. Microsoft is also providing a QFE patch for the MP3 corruption issues that have plagued build 7000, this should be online shortly as KB961367. It’s extremely important you apply this patch as you may lose parts of your MP3s if the patch is not applied.

It’s fully confirmed that the beta 1 build is 7000 that leaked shortly after Christmas. Our members have been discussing the Windows 7 availability for the past week in one of our more popular forum threads. According to sources close to Microsoft, the company is significantly further on from build 7000, having posted 7016 internally recently. It’s understood that the development has branched from 7003 onwards ready for the RC/RTM stages.

Early, real, every day tests on Windows 7 Beta = IMPRESSIVE! January 2, 2009

Hey all,

Its the 2nd of January and I hope that 2009 is going well for you all so far.

Anyways, a quick update on how Microsoft’s next iteration of its Operating System – Windows 7 – is going in the 1st Beta Build.

This build (build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400) has been out and about on the internet for a couple of weeks now as it was somehow leaked. Many speculate that this is the exact same build that will be released to the public in the coming weeks of this month, however some people say it isnt. Either way, Adrian Kingsley Hughes of ZDNet.com has tested out this version of Windows 7 in 23 everyday life PC tests and has also done the same tests on Machines running Windows XP and Vista. He tested them on two different machines (One of a higher spec and the other of a fairly decent spec)

The tests are as follows:

  1. Install OS – Time it takes to install the OS
  2. Boot up – Average boot time to usable desktop
  3. Shut down – Average shut down time
  4. Move 100MB files – Move 100MB of JPEG files from one hard drive to another
  5. Move 2.5GB files – Move 2.5GB of mixed size files (ranging from 1MB to 100MB) from one hard drive to another
  6. Network transfer 100MB files – Move 100MB of JPEG files from test machine to NAS device
  7. Network transfer 2.5GB files – Move 2.5GB of mixed size files (ranging from 1MB to 100MB) from test machine to NAS device
  8. Move 100MB files under load – Move 100MB of JPEG files from one hard drive to another while ripping DVD to .ISO file
  9. Move 2.5GB files under load – Move 2.5GB of mixed size files (ranging from 1MB to 100MB) from one hard drive to another while ripping DVD to .ISO file
  10. Network transfer 100MB files under load – Move 100MB of JPEG files from test machine to NAS device while ripping DVD to .ISO file
  11. Network transfer 2.5GB files under load – Move 2.5GB of mixed size files (ranging from 1MB to 100MB) from test machine to NAS device while ripping DVD to .ISO file
  12. Compress 100MB files – Using built-in ZIP compression
  13. Compress 1GB files – Using built-in ZIP compression
  14. Extract 100MB files – Using built-in ZIP compression
  15. Extract 1GB files – Using built-in ZIP compression
  16. Install Office 2007 – Ultimate version, from DVD
  17. Open 10 page Word doc – Text only
  18. Open 100 page Word doc – Text and images only
  19. Open simple Excel doc – Basic formatting
  20. Open complex Excel doc – Including formula and charts
  21. Burn DVD – Win 7 beta 1 .ISO to disc using CDBurnerXP
  22. Open 10 page PDF – Text only, using latest Adobe Reader 8
  23. Open 100 page PDF – Text and images, using latest Adobe Reader 8

The results of all these tests are as follows:

The way these are scored is that the OS with the best results is awarded the mark ‘1′ and second best is awarded a ‘2′ and third place is awarded ‘3′. Therefore the lower the final score, the better!

From these results its conclusive that Windows 7 is FAR better than its predecessors Windows Vista and XP. Also, it is evident that Windows 7 works well on both hardware configurations as there was a marginal difference of one point between the two.

So, for a Beta build it is clear that Windows 7 is on the right track and should hopefully become a lot better in its final RTM Code.

Hope this was useful!

Google Chrome out of BETA! December 13, 2008

The majority of internet users out there are predominantly using Internet Explorer as their 1st choice of software when browsing the web It can be claimed that this is so because IE comes pre-installed on Windows Machines and people are unaware of those third-party apps.

Well, for those of you that do use the runner up in poplularity – Mozilla FireFox – and are aware of the other strong contendors, the fairly new ‘rookie’ in the business has officially been ‘born’.

Google Chrome has swept the internet and is becoming increasingly popluar amongst tech folk. This is mostly due to the new, fresh Web 2.0 look and feel and not to mention that blazing fast speeds of both starting the application and surfing the internet. It has surpasses the once fastest browser Mozilla FireFox 3, in various different benchmarking tests.

Up until a couple of days ago, Google Chrome was in its development stages [BETA Stages] and although Google dont seem to be a fan of releasing software from BETA [Google Mail - GMail - has always been in BETA], Chrome is now out of BETA and is currently in version 1.0.154.36.

I have been using Chrome ever since it was unofficially released in BETA, and by that I mean stumbling upon a link to download it even before Google had decided to release if for Public Use. I must say that although it lacks all the amazing extensions that FireFox has, I have now found a replacement. the speed and new innovative interface have really swept me away. Mind you, I have been testing other beta browsers too – IE8, FF 3.1 Beta 2 etc… but this has surpassed them all.

Sooner or later, Google will realise the need for all these extra features that FireFox has and will be able to reel in the users. BUt for now it will have to rely on its robust core features which i feel will be very successful and appealing.

So, I would strongly recommend at least trying out Chrome and seeing whether it appeals to you.

Bye for now!

Firefox 3 Final – RELEASED! June 17, 2008

Well, there we have it, Firefox 3 is now launched.

I am currently using it and have not yet managed to see any major differences, but thats expected.

However, i am quite dissappointed with Mozilla as their servers dont seem able to cope with all the downloads and page visits. It seems impossible for me to even visit the site and there i have had to download off another mirror site. Don’t know if this counts for my Pledge and the world record, but its down to bad preparation by Mozilla.

Anyways for those of you who want to download it i suggest going to:

Have fun!
