IObit SmartDefrag

Hey guys,

Yes it’s been a while, but i recently visited a piece of software that i used a long time ago back in it’s earlier stages. This being: IObit SmartDefrag 5.01 beta.

It failed to reel me in last time, but this time i am completely wow’ed. I really feel that it is a superb Defragger. It analyses the drive really quickly and when it comes to defragmentation, you have 2 options. 1-Defrag Only and 2-Defrag and Optimize. I selected the latter option as i thought it would take a longer time and thus i readied my psp, but in actual fact it was really fast! Faster than any other defrag software i have used. However this was a 50Gb HDD which is pretty well maintained and thus that it what is expected.

So… I tried it on a much larger scale. I tried it on my other computer which has a whopping 640Gb HDD and hasn’t been defragged in a couple of months. Obviously the Analysing to slightly longer as there is more data to be found, but it was very fast nonetheless. Then came to the more important part. The actual defragging. This, by any standards, was bloody fast! and to be honest, on both machines, there was a difference.

IObit Smart Defrag also has an AutoDefrag feature which makes it run in the background [using minimal resources] and defragging slowly and without any big memory footprint as you go along using your PC.

I give this a big double thumbs up and hope that IObit continue to make good software and to better this software too.

Firefox 3 Final - RELEASED!

Well, there we have it, Firefox 3 is now launched.

I am currently using it and have not yet managed to see any major differences, but thats expected.

However, i am quite dissappointed with Mozilla as their servers dont seem able to cope with all the downloads and page visits. It seems impossible for me to even visit the site and there i have had to download off another mirror site. Don’t know if this counts for my Pledge and the world record, but its down to bad preparation by Mozilla.

Anyways for those of you who want to download it i suggest going to:

Have fun!

FireFox 3 RC2 Released!

Hey,

For all you FireFox 3 RC1 users, you can now get hold of RC2. FireFox should have updated itself, but in the event that it hasnt, click the link below to download it:

FireFox 3 RC2

Release notes on the changes:

Release Notes

Overview of FireFox3 RC1

Well, where do I start?

Firstly, as mentioned before by many other reviewers/bloggers, FireFox is amazingly fast at rendering pages. And, tests by Adrian over at ZDNet show that FireFox is faster than any other browser out there. So, to summarise this point - its damn fast!

Secondly, there has been a graphical user inter’face-lift’ which is quite appreciated. Obviously, this will not prevent people from making their own themes, and using the ones that can be found on the addons site, but its a nice change.

Thirdly, the configurations that can be made in the ‘Tools>Options’ sections have stayed the same on the most part but a few little tid-bits have been added in to give more control to advanced users.

Fourthly, the way that FireFox has made ’search’ & ‘favourites’ such a big part of the browser as a whole is a big PLUS as it makes it a whole lot easier to navigate and keep hold of the sites you want to visit frequently or to just bookmark [no pun intended].

Fifthly, and this is a carry on from the ’search’, that the way all your pages that you have visited are indexed so that as soon as you type any letter/word into the URL bar, it picks up on any main words in the pages you have visited before. This is really good, its almost as if Spotlight from Apple is integrated straight in.

Lastly, and this is one of the flaws, that rendering on some sites such as DeviantArt isn’t working properly and I think this is to do with the ‘JavaScripting’ on pages. I have also encountered this issue with some other web pages but since it still ist RTM, I can’t really complain.

Also, for all thos people who rely heavily on addons and extentions for FireFox, I would wait until the official RTM release is out seeing as developers havent yet finished making their addons native to FireFox 3.

Overall - a killer browser, but for those who like the Mac style on Windows, Safari 3.1.1 isnt far off and came second in rendering speed ;)

Hope that helps =)

FireFox 3 is out of initial BETA!

Hey all,

Just a quick one. Firefox 3 is now finally out of the initial beta stages and is in its first Release Candidate - RC1.

I am currently using it and it works a charm! Well done Mozilla.

I recommend any FireFox user to upgrade and all non-FireFox users to make the transition to using it =]

Or you could take the ’safer’ route and just hold out until its made into a finished public release - i.e. FireFox 3.x.x

Vista still unwelcomed by firms

With the unfortunate ‘hate’ towards Vista over the last year and a bit that the operating system has been out, Vista still seems crippled in the eyes of firms wishing to upgrade their IT departments etc… Whats more is that firms are putting salt on the wounds Microsoft by opting to not buy Vista even though their alternative, Windows XP is going to be phased out this summer. Why? you ask. Well, its because they are waiting for the next ‘evolution’ of Vista - Windows 7.

Now some of you may not have heard of this seeing as its still a foetus in the womb of Microsoft, but recently M$ stated that this new OS should be out by 2010. Seems like they may have made ANOTHER mistake *cough cough*.

This has lead firms to want to wait for the new OS as they haven’t yet been convinced that Vista is the way forward.

We’re considering bypassing Vista and going straight to Windows 7,” says GM’s Chief Systems & Technology Officer Fred Killeen.

However, M$ did also say that vista has managed to sell over 140 MILLION copies so far which is quite remarkable actually, but it seems as though the firms aren’t the consumers this time round.

SO, will Vista be able to keep on growing in sales and advance on the recently released SP1? Or will it be shunted in growth forcing M$ to work A LOT harder on their next OS - Windows 7?

It must be said however, that Microsoft has taken into account the feedback received from Vista users and reviewers and have claimed that they have seriously thinned the OS down and making it a lot less bloated.

Well i guess we’ll just have to see if it’s worth the wait or not.
